The Tragedy of Trad

An area of discourse worthy of analysis is that of the online 'traditionalists', but today we will focus on the subset known as ‘Trad girls’. Constituting a group of online women who idolise a femininity that some might consider traditional, Trad girls are, by and large, young, unmarried, and pretty. Through a mix of aesthetics and delicate prose, they express themselves via Twitter profiles stylised in Latin Christian locutions, romantic imagery, and straight-faced selfies exuding the enigmatic aloof of the Mona Lisa. Modesty, innocence, monogamy, and submission to the opposite sex are enshrined as the optimum mode of being. Modern liberal values, meanwhile, are decried as antithetical to women’s nature.
