It has become a running joke in the office that I have an autistic obsession with trains. In truth, any fascination I may have with the subject concerns GWR Swindon—or, as we shall henceforth refer to it, the ‘Works’. You can read my article on it here. This isn’t rooted in any personal or sentimental connection to Swindon. Rather, my interest lies in the Works’ ‘presence’. When viewing a thing-in-itself, one can gain an understanding richer than anything conveyed by mere language.
