John Rawls was one of the most influential political philosophers of the twentieth century. He revitalized the social contract tradition in political philosophy and his conception of justice has shaped contemporary liberalism to a great extent. We discuss his method of reflective equilibrium, his position within the social contract tradition, his principles of justice, and finally the thought-experiment of the original position and the veil of ignorance.
