Facebook Indefinitely Suspends Donald Trump
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has released a statement on behalf of the company announcing the suspension of President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram account for the remainder of the presidential transition.
This unprecedented move will likely be seen by Donald Trump’s supporters of further evidence of a political agenda in social media companies like Facebook.
The block does not appear to be in response to a specific breach of Facebook's terms of service. Rather, Facebook determined his intent was to use the platform to "undermine the peaceful and lawful transition of power" to Joe Biden.
Mr Zuckerberg states that President Trump failed to condemn the actions of his supporters at the Capitol building in D.C., and instead condoned them.
In his final post to the platform before being suspended, Trump posted:
"I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!"
This move follows a 24-hour suspension issued after Facebook says two posts had broken their terms of service, meaning the new sanction was implemented whilst the president had not, and could not, post anything to the platform.
